These blocks are called stars blocks. Out of one pattern you get 3 different quilts. Pretty amazing that the Eleanor Burns. Thanks El.

Here are the blocks made from the scraps of the Day and Night quilt.

This first one is called the Spider block. I have not decided if I am goingto put the finishing pieces around each block to make into a square or just applique on some background fabric.

This is a picture of Judie Rothermel at Road to California. She is a designer of Civil War fabrics for Marcus Brothers.

Here is a picture of me and Eleanor Burns from Quilt In A Day at Road to California this last January.

I have another quilt on my design wall. This one is done with machine applique and using thirties fabrics. Still needs the borders to be put on it.

Last Wedenesday I was at my local quilt shop taking a class. We learned Quilt In A Day new pattern/book "Day and Night"

Here is a picture of what I did in class. Not finished yet.

I will be at my local quilt shop tomorrow taking a class. The class is from a Quilt In A Day book called Day and Night. I have not taken a class at a quilt shop in about 2 years. Should be fun to reconnect with other quilters again.

Starting Out

Like I said, I started quilting about 6 years ago. I was self taught through reading quilt books and magazines for about 3 years. I found out, that in my valley a quilt shop had opened. I signed up for a beginner class to refine my self taught skills. I eventually ended up working there in the shop part time. I have a good eye for fabric. When the ladies would come into the shop, it seemed like everyone liked my choices in fabric. I left there to take other classes at various quilt shops. I wanted to learn more and different techniques. I learned to paper piece, different ways of applique, and more complicated pieced quilts. Now I feel that I can tackle any quilt pattern out there. I have a good friend that quilts with me from time to time. We go to various quilt functions every year. The first one for the year is Road to California. This is the big quilt convention for Califonia that is held at the Ontario Convention Center. We shop till we drop and of course look at the beautiful quilts on display. Then we tell each other that we really do not quilt compared to what we see on display. Our next function is Demo Day down in San Marcos (San Diego area). We go to see what Eleanor Burns has came out with new for the year. Her quilt shop is named Quilt In A Day. Then we have the Southern California Quilt Run. We go all over southern california to the quilt shops on the run. I believe there are anywhere between 30-35 shops on the run. It usually takes us 2 weekends and an overnight stay one weekend to complete. We also shop from all of them. This what we do every year, besides the occasional visits to our local quilt shops for some odds and ends to finish quilts. Yes, I have the quilting bug bad. I have fabric stored all over my house. Drives my husband nuts. I remind people that quilting is good therapy and a lot cheaper than paying for a therapist or doctor.
